Learn Where You Can Get a Gifted Education
There's an ongoing debate about what it is exactly that makes one child seem to accomplish tasks and learn new information at a much faster and more efficient pace than the next one. Some critics say a high level of intellectual functioning is something we are born with but others say an average intellect can be nurtured into that of a genius.
There may be no end in sight to the debate on the beginnings of intellectual giftedness, when working even with children who are not particularly gifted education is monumental. One story of an ambitious but relatively average man set about to teach his children how to be geniuses even before he'd met the woman he'd marry and raise, and educate, those children with.
Laszlo Polgar is a chess fanatic from Hungary. He's not so good at playing the game himself but he is an avid fan of chess theory. In fact, he's such an enthusiastic theorist that he owns more than 10,000 books, all about chess, which have proven to be a great source of education to the Polgar household.
Polgar wanted his children to be chess masters so even before they were born, he started the plan that would generate a gifted education to his children, as yet unborn. He started by writing a book, Bring Up Genius!, then scouting around for a Hungarian woman who would agree to become his partner in raising children with the gifted education he had in mind.
Polgar found Klara, a schoolteacher, and the gifted education experiment began. The Polgars home schooled their three daughters, with much of their education revolving around or relating to chess.
The gifted education experiment was quickly determined to be a successful venture. One of his daughters, Zsuzsa (Susan) entered the Budapest Chess Championship for girls age 11 and under. She won. She was only four years old.
Where this chess teacher is concerned, the gifted education based around his own love of the game proved successful on all counts. All three of Polgar's daughters became world-class chess players. Two of them are even grandmasters of the game.
